It feels like quite a while since I sat down to properly write one of these, but as is usually the case when things go quiet around here, the silence is deceptive.
The truth is, I’ve had my head thoroughly down.
Lately, most of my days have been swallowed whole by writing. Between diving headfirst into some new book projects that have been demanding serious desk time and continuing to shape the music for Rhovan, the hours at the piano and the keyboard seem to vanish before I’ve even finished a second cup of coffee.
Rhovan in particular has been pulling a lot of creative focus. Finding that intersection between Celtic melodic tradition and the space of solo piano is the kind of work that refuses to be rushed, every cadence, every turn of phrase takes its own sweet time to settle where it belongs. But it’s coming together in a way that feels honest, evocative, and deeply personal.
Add to that the fresh pages piling up for the new books, and it’s been a whirlwind of plotting, refining, and occasionally arguing with my own drafts.
Looking ahead, things are about to shift from solitary writing mode back onto the boards. We’re lining up performances for early next year, and while I’m not quite ready to drop the full schedule just yet, preparations are quietly gathering pace. Stepping out from behind the manuscript and getting back in front of live audiences is going to be a welcome change of gear when the new year rolls around.
More details on dates, venues, and what’s hitting the press soon. For now, the kettle’s back on, and there are a few more bars of music calling my name.
Thanks for sticking around, more soon.
